New Story

- July 31, 2009, 1:47 pm | Notes To Read While Falling

I wake to black
and one sound never arriving.
I stand silent in the dark rooms
of my house. Is it my heart
I hear, or another`s?

Forgive me for thinking
it was hers.

All that I love is flawed
and I can no more un-do this
than I can un-dream dreams.

True, none of this
has to do with dreaming,
since the sight of her
reminds me
no more of what`s to come
but what passes away:

hours, words, touch.

So I close my eyes in this darkness
to see into another -
1000 miles to another place
in heavy boots I walk, nervous,
owning a new story that remarks loss.
