- July 10, 2009, 3:50 pm | Notes To Read While Falling

The poem you expected
is on the other side of this paper -
a poem I will not finish by Friday.

I have already cross-hatched the title -
giving up on it for now.

You wanted that poem
to show the world how I loved you, but
I have sat in this same place and wept

(not all poems can be happy),

wept that you were across that sour river,
wept that you could not hear me
nor see that I loved you
more than the sun loves the moon.

Remembering this
is like a rock on my back,
pushing against me - pushing into me.

How little I want to notice.

I watch you sleeping now

     (not all loves go unrequited)

and it is your hand on my thigh
that holds me here with you - or is it
the way your hair curls around your ear?

No.

It`s that I feel dizzy watching you.
