A Note For Kristen

- July 10, 2009, 3:19 pm | Poetry

You asked,
Don`t you think she`s beautiful?
and I simply said Yes.

What I meant to say was
I have looked into the amethyst
of your eyes--
I will drown in them.

I have seen the sweet
curve of your lips--
I will dig my moist grave.

What I meant was
this hardly had to do with her,
my giving in to these thoughts,
as testimony to my holy struggle,

how a glance from you changes me,
the way lightning strikes sand
creating brilliant glass.

I meant to say
it was you I saw
when I said Yes.
